Details for:  Acetylcholine Receptor-Ab (ARAb) RRA
Radio receptor assay (RRA) for the in-vitro-diagnostic semi-quantitative determination of autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptor in human serum and plasma. The ARAb Assay is useful as an aid in the differential diagnosis of Myasthenia gravis (MG). Autoantibodies to postsynaptic acetylcholine receptors are responsible for the muscle weakness and fatigabilities in myasthenia gravis [2]. These antibodies are detectable in the serum of 80-90 % of patients with generalized myasthenia gravis and in 55-70 % of patients with ocular myasthenia [1]. A good correlation is observed between antibody titers and muscle weakness in individual patients. The radio receptor assay for the determination of acetylcholine receptor antibodies in serum is a highly specific and sensitive test for use in the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. Receptor antibody titers tend to rise several weeks before exacerbations in patients with established myasthenia gravis.
